Here are the top Shark vacuums:

Overall Best Vacuum: Shark DuoClean Upright Vacuum

This model checks all the boxes. Here are just its top assets:

  • Carpet – The firm carpet brush and the vac’s strong suction give you deep cleaning right down to the carpet backing.
  • Hard surfaces – The soft brush for hard flooring is revolutionary – you no longer have to choose between harming hard flooring with a brisk rotating brush or using a suction-only vacuum to clean them.

The gentle brush engages the floor to loosen dirt that gets sucked away without damage.

  • Features – The Lift-Away vac is ideal for quick jobs, upholstery and more above-floor cleaning. Dust on shelves? Gone! A swivel head on the upright allows 360 maneuvering. The handle can lay flat, so when you remove the Lift-Away canister to make this a stick vacuum, you can use the full power of the machine under furniture.

Did you know? The built-in wand on the canister allows you to easily reach dust and cobwebs on light fixtures, in upper corners, lower corners and behind furniture too.

  • Pet hair removal – Stubborn pet hair laughs at standard vacuum tools and stays put. But the TruePet mini motorized brush grabs it and pulls it out with the help of those 1,200 watts!
  • Big dust cup – The 3.3-quart dust cup is perfect for handling those heavy-shedding seasons.
  • Full-sized Lift-Away – You won’t lose any grime-fighting capacity when you disconnect the canister vac to go after dirt on the couch, craft table or workbench, in the car trunk and a thousand other places.

  • Carpet and hard flooring brushes – That’s the DuoClean difference. Easily replace the bristle carpet brush with a soft hard flooring brush to whisk up dirt that vacuum power alone won’t remove.
  • The brushroll garage It offers storage on the vacuum, so you won’t misplace either brush.

Best Cordless Vacuum: Shark ION F80

Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum with MultiFLEX, DuoClean for Carpet & Hard floors. Hand Vacuum Mode, and (2) Removable Batteries (IF281). This is a stick vacuum with a removable handheld vac. Two vacs in one!

While convenient, cordless vacuums have their limitations such as short run times and mediocre performance. The Shark ION F80 helps overcome them with two important features.

  • Second battery – You can charge the spent battery while vacuuming with the other. These batteries are long-lasting lithium ion.
  • The DuoClean system – This technology is worth having. The carpet brush accomplishes deep vacuuming. The softer hard-floor brush does a better job than suction alone.

Why are Shark Vacuum Ratings So High?

Shark has become a household name, and this section explains why.

Did you know? Shark has become the top-selling vacuum brand, according to the market research firm Mintel, surpassing Dyson, Bissell and other household names.

Why does Shark outsell Dyson, Bissell, Hoover, Riccar, Miele and every other competitor?

One word sums up the difference: Value

Value is the combination of exceptional performance and competitive cost.

Shark products are highly rated because they get the job done without spending Dyson or Miele kind of money.

Let’s explore more reasons consumers buy Shark vacuums at higher rates than other brands.

Many Different Shark Vacuum Types

What type of vacuum do you need? SharkNinja makes them all.

Upright vacuums: This type sells best because it offers the best performance. Powerful suction from high-watt motors, bristle brushrolls for carpet and many models with a bare-floor soft brush too. Uprights usually have the largest collection of tools too. Specifically looking for an upright vacuum? consult our upright vacuum reviews.

Lift-Away Canister Uprights: Shark makes the top rated 2-in-1 vacuums. The technology is called Lift-Away. With a button push, the canister vacuum separates. It has a comfortable handle and good balance. It’s still mains powered, so little suction strength is lost.

Another advantage of Lift-Away design is that the canister can be removed to create what is essentially a stick vacuum. Combined with the swivel head, the stick lies flat on the floor. It is easily pushed under beds and couches for thorough vacuuming where dust and pet hair often accumulates.

Ultralights: A vacuum under 10lbs that still gets floors clean is a rarity. But Shark makes several like the Shark Rocket DuoClean and IONFlex 2X in our list. They’re ideal for light-to-moderate duty cleaning, stairs and tough places to reach. They excel on bare flooring but work well on carpet too.

Ultralights like the DuoClean are 2-in-1 too. A handheld vacuum easily detaches from the body for quick cleanups of dry spills and pet fur on upholstery.

Cordless sticks: You never change outlets or have to work your way out from behind furniture the same way you came in or worry about tripping anyone with a cord.

Shark cordless vacuums get top ratings for convenience, of course, but also for suction power. They pick up more dust, dirt and pet hair than the competition.

Robot vacuums: This fast-growing segment of the market was long dominated by iRobot Roombas. But Shark is swimming to the top of the food chain one satisfied customer at a time.

Did you know? Shark robot vacs are AI connected. Models like the RV750 offer next-level convenience with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, WiFi connectivity and the Shark app for remote programming from your phone.

Powerful Suction

Motors range from 600 watts on ultralights to 800-1,200 on full-size uprights. Paired with leading edge airflow technology, Shark vacuums get good ratings for pick-up power even when compared to Dyson, the suction king. Plus, you’ll spend 33% to 50% on Shark vacuum cleaners compared to similar Dyson models.

Superior Filtration and Allergy Control

Your air will be cleaner with a Shark.

Did you know? Most Shark vacuums filter air coming into the machine. This significantly reduces the potential for dirty air being exhausted.

Top vacuums, like the Shark DuoClean and TruePet in our list, use HEPA filters that trap 99.99% of what’s collected. You won’t get that musty vacuum smell from a Shark.

The Anti-Allergen seal creates an air-tight fit that won’t allow even the smallest dust and pet dander particles to escape. This unique feature makes Shark vacuums top rated among allergy sufferers.

The Swivel Advantage

Shark upright vacuums feature a swivel-head design. This reduces the effort it takes to redirect the machine and helps you get into tight spots and lay the vac flat to reach beneath furniture. It’s vacuuming made easy!

Useful Tools

Shark have taken great care in the design of their vacuum tools. Owners of a Shark vacuum with a mini motorized brush say two things: They find hundreds of floor-level and above-floor uses for it. Secondly, it gets the job done!

The appliance wand is narrow enough to fit under most ranges, driers, refrigerators and furniture with low clearance. It’s slim design concentrates suction power too.

Crevice tools included with most vacuums are 4” to 9” long, adequate for most jobs. You can accessorize with an 18” crevice tool for really deep couches. It’s a must-have for vacuuming your car!

If you hate cutting entangled hair off the roller, the Brush Roll Cleaning tool is perfect. It’s blade fits into the grooves in most Shark rollers. Slide the blade along the groove, and it safely cuts the tangles for easy removal. Much safer than using scissors or a utility knife!

Durability

Shark durability user ratings range from 88% to 93% for most models.

Did you know? A Consumer Reports survey found the breakage rate in the first three years is 21% for Hoover and 22% for Dyson, but just 11% for Shark. That’s impressive!

Are you getting a better idea of why Shark tops the ratings chart?

OK, now let’s get specific with the best of the best Shark models.

The Shark Vacuum Reviews – Home Flooring Pros Reviews

Here they are with full Shark vacuum reviews for each.

Our #1 Best Shark Vacuum

Shark DuoClean Upright Vacuum with Lift-Away Hand Vacuum delivers specialized vacuuming of all floor types and much more.

Best Feature

We love that hard floor cleaning isn’t an afterthought with this vacuum. You don’t just disable the standard brush. If desired, you also pop in the soft brush designed specifically for cleaning hard flooring without damage.

Biggest Concern

The dust cup capacity is 0.9 quarts. Compare that to the 3.3 quart dust cup of the Rotator TruePet reviewed next!

Ratings & Most Helpful User Reviews

User satisfaction is 85% to 88%. About 8% of reviews are negative.

These are average ratings for Shark vacuums and better than most other brands.

Here’s a summary of the most common review remarks:

  • In most cases, the Shark DuoClean upright vacuum does a better job than the one it replaced – superior vacuuming on all surface types.
  • The front brush roller for soft flooring and small piles of spilled dry items like popcorn or cat litter is very effective.
  • The small dust cup is the most common complaint.
  • Moving from carpet to hard floors couldn’t be easier.
  • You might have to hold it back on carpet to let the brushroll do its job.
  • The head is not as wide as some uprights, so it takes a little longer to do large, open spaces but is good for getting into tight spots.
  • It doesn’t lie flat when the Lift-away is removed. Other versions like the NV803 do.
  • Quiet yet powerful. Handles pet hair like a champ.
  • Assembly is easy, versatility is good. Most units are durable, but a small percentile have early mechanical problems.
  • The carpet roller might damage fragile rugs. This is the second most common complaint. Use the soft brush if you have an expensive rug you want to protect.

You want just one full-power machine to do all your vacuuming and you don’t mind the weight.

Shark DuoClean upright vacuum specs
  • Weight: 13lbs
  • Cord: 30 feet
  • Motor: 900 watts
  • Tools: Pet Multi-tool and Duster crevice tool.
  • Rollers: Brushroll for carpet and Soft roller for hard floors.
  • Filters: Pre-motor and HEPA post-motor filters.
  • Dust cup size: .9 dry quarts
  • Colors: Black and Red.

The best overall vacuum should do it all, right? And this one does.

Shark DuoClean Upright vacuum review – Home Flooring Pros Verdict

All-flooring types get clean. The DuoClean delivers superior vacuuming on both carpet and hard flooring plus upholstery and more.

Hard floor vacuuming is accomplished by installing (it’s a snap, literally), the soft brush. Other hard floor vacs have no brush at all, just suction power. The Shark DuoClean upright gently engages the floor surface without harming it. In fact, the brush has a polishing effect on hard surfaces. Click here for other top rated vacuums for hard or tile flooring.

The soft brush is also designed to pull in large piles of debris without scattering it – think potting soil from a tipped-over plant.

Pets don’t scare this Shark. While not branded as a pet vacuum, its Pet power brush and Pet multi-tool tell a different story. The power brush digs deep into the cat or dog’s favorite lounge spots to pull out embedded pet hair, dander and other allergens.

Allergens stay put inside the dust cup due to the HEPA filter and a seal that won’t allow air and allergens to escape.

The Lift-Away vacuum releases with push-button ease and reattaches with a click. It includes a powered brush of its own for effective spot cleaning.

Best Shark Vacuum for Dog/Cat Owners

Shark Rotator TruePet Upright Corded Bagless Vacuum for Carpet and Hard Floor

With Powered Lift-Away Hand Vacuum and Anti-Allergy Seal this vacuum will help you minimize or eliminate unsightly pet hair and the odor sometimes associated with pets in the house.

Best Feature

Carpet cleaning professionals agree that effective removal of dirt, dust and dander from carpet is the key to keeping it looking new and smelling fresh.

The powerful 1,200 watt motor delivers plenty of power to the brushrollers and to the mini brush.

Biggest Concern

At 15.6lbs, this is one of Shark’s heaviest vacuums. The cause of the extra weight is the large 1,200 watt motor and quality of the components. There’s really no way around the weight issue without sacrificing those advantages.

Ratings & Most Helpful User Reviews

User satisfaction is 85% to 89%. Negative reviews are about 11%.

Common customer comments include:

  • This vacuum cleans as well as their Dyson at half the price.
  • The full-suction, mini motorized brush tool gets used a lot and does a very good job, say quite a few users.
  • It’s effective on all flooring types.
  • Removing and using the Lift-Away back is as easy as shown in the videos.
  • The LED lights are very bright and will help you see dust in spots you missed.
  • When using the canister, the roller wants to pull the head across carpet, like it is self-propelled. As a result, the brushroll doesn’t do as good a job. Users recommend holding it back, so it works into the carpet. The technique takes a little getting used to.
  • The most common complaints involve the weight. It causes arm and shoulder fatigue for some, and others find it cumbersome to maneuver.
  • The second biggest issue is that the brushroll on a small percentage of units stops rotating. This problem is most common on thick carpeting.
Buy this Vacuum If

Your old vacuum doesn’t have the suction power to pull pet hair out of upholstery and deep-pile carpeting. This one will.

Shark Rotator TruePet Upright Corded Bagless Vacuum specs
  • Weight:6lbs; Lift-Away is 8lbs.
  • Cord: 30 feet
  • Motor: 1,200 watts
  • Tools: Motorized floor nozzle, bare-floor tool, cleaning wand, handle with hose and pet multi-tool. According to the Shark website, accessories that might vary slightly depending on where you purchase the TruePet.
  • Rollers: Brushroll for carpet and Mini Motorized brush in the canister.
  • Filters: Pre-motor and HEPA post-motor filters.
  • Dust cup size:3 dry quarts
  • Colors: Steel Grey, Bordeaux and Rose Gunmetal.

This model is designed for cleaning up after pets, but it handles all vacuuming duties with power and versatility.

Shark TruePet Upright review – Home Flooring Pros Verdict

Captured hair and dirt stay put. The pre-motor and post-motor HEPA filters and Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology ensure that pet hair, dander and other debris stay put once captured by this powerful vacuum.

Excellent canister vacuuming! The Rotator TruePet includes Shark’s original full-size Lift-Away canister vac. It has a motorized brush powered by the 1,200-watt motor. The result is deep cleaning places the full vacuum can’t reach.

Floor type selector on the handle is so easy. There’s no bending over to adjust the machine from bare floor to carpet or from low-pile to high-pile carpet.

LED lighting and lay-flat functionality improve cleaning. The bright lights allow you to see pet hair close in color to the flooring. Combined with the Lift-Away option to remove the canister and lay the vacuum flat, you don’t have to move furniture to clean beneath it.

Swivel steering is smooth. If you haven’t had a Shark swivel vac before, you might “jackknife” the unit a few times. Once you’re familiar with the swiveling, you’ll enjoy the easy maneuvering it delivers.

Note: Shark recommends using the Carpet/Low Pile mode for deep cleaning any carpet, even high-pile types.

The Shark Navigator upright vacuum with Lift-Away and Zero-M anti-hair wrap technology (ZU561) has an attractive price without sacrificing performance.

Best Feature

The Zero-M cleaner head continuously removes hair from the brushroll, and it gets sucked into the duct cup. This feature saves a lot of hassle!

Biggest Concern

There’s no soft brush for hard flooring, but that’s a luxury most Shark and other-brand vacuums in this price range don’t have. If you have soft wood flooring, this might not be the vacuum for you.

Ratings & Most Useful User Reviews

User satisfaction is 92% to 96%.

Negative reviews are less than 5% of the total. These are comparatively outstanding ratings.

Here’s what people say:

  • Expect to empty the dust cup often when you first get it. Many are surprised at how dirty their old vacuum left the carpeting.
  • Considering power, tools and results, you get good bang for the buck.
  • The Lift-Away gets used often for small jobs and spot cleaning. It easily detaches and reattaches.
  • The 25-foot cord is shorter than the 30-footers other Sharks have, but an advantage is less tangling.
  • Some would like a wider head (it’s about 12 inches) to reduce the number of passes you have to make in open space. Others like that it fits better into nooks and its narrower size means easier storage.
  • Head doesn’t swivel quite as easily as other Sharks. Some like the fact it doesn’t easily jackknife. Others would prefer smoother action.
  • The most common negative comment is that the unit is top-heavy. It falls over if lightly bumped or it’s not leaning against something.
Buy this Vacuum If

You’re looking for a budget-friendly vacuum that has most of the features of the best Shark vacuums. Its best fit is in homes with shorter-nap carpet and bare flooring.

Shark Navigator Professional vacuum specs
  • Weight:4lbs;
  • Cord: 25 feet
  • Motor: 800 watts
  • Tools: Duster crevice tool, hair-removal multitool and wide upholstery brush.
  • Rollers: Brushroll for carpet.
  • Filters: HEPA post-motor filters and anti-allergen seal.
  • Dust cup size: Small at 1.2 dry quart capacity.
  • Colors: Peony Red, Plasma Blue.
Shark Navigator Professional upright vacuum review – Home Flooring Pros Verdict

On the plus side, this unit delivers plenty of vacuum power with the 800-watt motor.

It’s better in thick carpet. Newly designed roller and Zero-M technology are new. The model this unit replaced had an older-style roller that would bog down in thick carpet. So far, this problem hasn’t surfaced with this unit.

Shark makes the best lift-away canisters. The 2-in-1 vacuum might become your favorite feature. The portable canister easily lifts out, is lightweight and has a powered brush ideal for stairs, stubborn pet hair on upholstery and vacuuming cobwebs from corners.

The Navigator Upright is lighter than most. At 13.4lbs, it is up to 3lbs lighter than other top Shark vacuums. Because the swivel head design causes more weight to rest on your arm, you appreciate the lighter weight. It’s a good choice for those with arthritic joints or who have trouble with weight.

Best Shark Ultra-Light Vacuum

Shark Rocket DuoClean Ultra-Light Corded Bagless Vacuum Carpet Hard Floor Lift-Away Hand Vacuum (HV382) cleans all flooring types and offers 2-vacuums-in-1 convenience.

This is the lightweight version of our top rated Shark vacuum, the Shark DuoClean, but with less power. It’s a 2-in-1: A stick vacuum with a removable handheld.

Best Feature

Separate brush rollers for carpet and for hard floors make it the only vacuum you need.

Biggest Concern

While 600 watts is good, an 800-watt or 1,200-watt Shark vacuum offer deeper carpet cleaning. That’s why we recommend this unit for reach, portability and a corded hand vac as its best features.

Ratings & Most Useful User Reviews

81% to 84% of reviews are positive. About 11% are negative.

The most commonly voiced comments are:

  • Frequently praised for being light and very handy for spot cleaning and getting to hard-to-reach places.
  • The light weight makes a difference for those that struggle with a 15lb vacuum.
  • The soft brush for bare floors makes a difference, because it loosens dirt and debris better than a suction-only vacuum does.
  • The two-speed power switch for roller speed makes a difference. Use slow for bare flooring, especially hardwood and laminate. High is best for carpet.
  • Durability is better than expected.
  • The most frequent complaint is that it is top-heavy and won’t stand on its own.
  • The most serious complaints involve heavy pet hair. The roller gets clogged and bogs with fur when there’s a lot of it. It will take regularly cleaning. Some say upgrading to the TruePet eliminated the issue. You’ll still need to regularly clean and maintain any vacuum if you have heavy shedding pets in the house.
Buy this Vacuum If

You want a lightweight Shark vacuum for all flooring types except deep carpet with lots of pet hair. It also makes sense if you prefer the better suction of  a corded hand vacuum compared to a cordless model.

Shark Rocket DuoClean Ultra-Light vacuum specs
  • Weight:9lbs; Hand vacuum is 4.6lbs
  • Cord: 30 feet
  • Motor: 600 watts
  • Tools: Pet Multi-tool and crevice tool.
  • Rollers: Brushroll for carpet and Soft roller for hard floors.
  • Filters: Pre-motor and post-motor filters.
  • Dust cup size:0 dry quarts
  • Colors: Cinnamon, Charcoal and Plasma Blue.
Shark Rocket DuoClean review – Home Flooring Pros Verdict

Additional accessories are available. Since this unit has just two accessories, you might want to browse Shark’s vacuum accessories and add the tools you’ll use most. The dozen-plus accessories include a roll-cleaning knife for removing hair and string, 12” and 18” crevice tools, angled dusting brush and under-appliance wand.

If you have dust allergies, this isn’t the best fit for you. The filters are non-HEPA, and the vacuum doesn’t have the anti-allergy seal found on top Shark models.

Makes a fine light-duty and portable vacuum. That’s really the bottom line. If you have pets that lose a lot of fur, expect to clean this vacuum after each use or get something else.

Best Cordless Shark Vacuum

The Shark ION F80 Lightweight Cordless Stick Vacuum with MultiFLEX, DuoClean allows you the convenience of cordless performance with fewer empty-battery interruptions. It’s 2 vacuums in 1.

Best Feature

It’s a toss-up between the two batteries and the two roller brushes. Its run times are much longer than the version it replaced, the IONFlex 2X. The bristle brush does a good job separating carpet fibers for deep cleaning. The soft brush gets more dirt off bare flooring than vacuum suction alone.

Biggest Concern

Reduced power, but that’s the nature of cordless. It’s a power vs run-time tradeoff. The ION F80 motor delivers 100-120 watts, typical for most cordless vacuums. Compare that with 600 to 1200 watts for Shark corded vacuums.

Ratings & Most Useful User Reviews

Positive reviews are 93% to 96%. The negative reviews are 4% to 5%.

Here are the most insightful and common pros and cons:

  • The most frequent positive comment is that the vacuum has good suction for a cordless.
  • The cordless design saves time and tangles when working around furniture and other obstacles, going room to room and doing stairs
  • Quite effective at removing loose hair and dirt on bare flooring, but don’t expect it to suck up stuck stuff.
  • The flex design adds versatility.
  • Best results come with frequent vacuuming.
  • If you want to get all your vacuuming done at once, have both batteries ready. Recharge time is average – about 3.5 hours.
  • The motor and battery are in the top part – the hand vacuum rather than the motor being in the head and resting on the floor. That makes it a bit heavy.
  • The .3 quart dirt cup requires frequent emptying.
Buy this Vacuum If

You want the convenience of a 2-in-1 cordless with a separate hard-floor brush and are willing to pay a little more than average cordless stick vacuum price.

  • Tools: 2 ION batteries and charging dock, 8” crevice tool, upholstery tool.
  • Rollers: Brushroll for carpet and Soft roller for hard floors.
  • Filters: Non-HEPA pre-motor and post-motor filters.
  • Dust cup size: .3 quarts.
  • Colors: Charcoal with blue accents.
Shark ION F80 2X DuoClean cordless vacuum review – Home Flooring Pros Verdict

MultiFLEX technology is in this Shark’s folding/twisting neck. Folding it over allows the unit to stand upright without leaning against the wall. Twist the neck to extend the reach of the vacuum beneath beds and furniture.

The batteries last longer. When using both batteries, run times are 50 minutes on carpet, 60 on hard flooring and up to 80 minutes in stick/handle vacuum style.

Best Shark Robot Vacuum

Shark ION Robot Vacuum WIFI-Connected, Voice Control Dual-Action Robotic Vacuum Carpet and Hard Floor Cleaner, Works with Alexa (RV750)

Home appliances are getting smarter, and Shark is on the leading edge with this WiFi Shark robot vacuum that works with Alexa. The vacuum returns to the dock for automatic charging before it runs out of power.

Best Feature

If you’re buying a robot vacuum for convenience, then you’ll love the Detangling Technology comb on the dust bin that takes ease one step further.

The comb pulls hair and other fibers off the brushroll. They are then swept into the dust bin.

Biggest Concern

Like any robot vacuum, you should run it most days to keep your floors clean. This is especially true if you have shedding pets and/or wear shoes in the house.

If your home’s carpeting hasn’t been well-cared for, don’t expect the Shark ION robot or any robot vacuum to dig out embedded hair and dirt.

Ratings & Most Useful User Reviews

75% to 79% of reviewers give high/highest ratings to this robot vacuum. Poor ratings account for 16% to 18%.

People are saying:

  • The most frequent praise is that it combines lower cost, than most Roomba vacs, with vacuuming that’s better than expected.
  • The happiest customers use it on bare floors and low-pile carpet/rugs that are lightly soiled.
  • Uses random vacuuming, not mapping, but still covers all the ground…most of the time.
  • The most common complaint (about 25%) is that it occasionally gets stuck on high-pile carpet.
  • Some say getting it to connect to WiFi took several attempts and might disconnect at random times.

  • Weight:5lbs
  • Includes: Lithium ion battery, charging dock, 9 feet of BotBoundary strip with 2 connections.
  • Rollers: Main brushroll and two side rollers.
  • Dust cup size: .4 quarts
  • Filters: Non-HEPA pleated paper filter.
  • Color: Black
Shark ION robot vacuum review – Home Flooring Pros Verdict

BotBoundary strips are magnetic tape the sensors detect and steer the vacuum away from. They are used to create no-go zones.

Boundaries are typically used around furniture with a low clearance where the bot vac might get trapped and near power cords and wires that will entangle it.

Use with Alexa which requires setup, but then it is easy. First, you’ll need an Alexa device. Then:

  1. Search the free Shark Skill in the Skills section of the Alexa app or on the Alexa Skills store on Amazon.
  2. Open the Detail page, and select Enable Skill.
