Everyone is getting in the game with EVP rigid core luxury vinyl flooring, and Mannington, one of the biggest players in the industry, is naturally competing too. The Adura Rigid collection is part of the larger Adura luxury vinyl plank flooring range offered by Mannington.

As you would expect from this already well established brand, the Adura Rigid collection offers a comprehensive selection of styles, from rustic to classic, in both wood look planks and stone look vinyl tiles.

Let’s start our Mannington Adura Rigid review by taking a closer look at what it is and what you get for your money.

In the rigid core flooring market there are several different subsets depending on the exact manufacturing process and materials used. Mannington’s Adura Rigid are made using the SPC method.

That stands for solid polymer core/ or stone plastic composite – depending on who you ask. Essentially, it means that the middle layer in this rigid core flooring is made from limestone powder and plastic (polymer) stabilizers. This gives it both its waterproof quality and dimensional stability.

The other layers that make up Mannington’s Adura Rigid collection are a top wear layer, a vinyl image layer (replicating wood or stone), and an integrated underlayment pad on the bottom.

The Adura Rigid collection comes in both wood planks and stone tiles. The stone tiles are 12” x 24”, and whilst most of the stone designs look like long slab tiles, some have a grout effect in the middle of the image layer, so that they look like two 12” square tiles. All the stone look Adura Rigid tiles are 5.5mm thick.

The Aura Rigid wood look designs are available in either 6” x 48” or 7” x 48” planks, each finished with a micro-bevel edge. All the wood look Adura Rigid planks are also 5.5mm thick.

In terms of styles, there is enough range to offer plenty of choice. Recently Mannington have released three new wood designs, and one new stone design (available in stores from end of February 2020).

So, including these news designs, there are currently 16 wood designs, and 9 stone designs, though many of those are available in several different colorways, so the full collection is much larger and pretty broad.

It’s a very well considered collection. There is a range of aesthetics, including rustic, weathered, classic, whitewashed; different wood species choices from marble grained acacia to characterful knotty oaks; dramatically veined soapstone to softer tumbled travertine. And honestly, all of them are gorgeous!

Note that most of the Aura Rigid designs are also available in the other Adura luxury vinyl flooring collections, including Adura Max and Adura Flex.

Here are the advantages of Mannington Adura Rigid core flooring:

  • a very good looking collection, the designs are all extremely attractive
  • both wood look and stone look designs available
  • rigid core flooring is waterproof and dimensionally stable
  • Mannington claim that their rigid core is dent, stain and scratch resistant
  • can be installed on, above and below grade
  • can be installed in bathrooms, kitchens and basements
  • can be installed on most subfloors
  • does not need to acclimate before installation
  • does not need extra underlayment
  • FloorScore certified for good indoor air quality
  • easy to clean and maintain

Here are the disadvantages of Mannington Adura Rigid core flooring:

  • some feel that the relative thinness of this rigid core (5.5mm) makes it feel too hard underfoot, it is more like ceramic tile in this regard
  • Mannington do not recommend installing this flooring as a DIY project, but if you are an experienced DIYer and stick to the guidelines it’s not impossible to do yourself. Otherwise get this flooring professionally installed.

As with most rigid core flooring, Adura Rigid should be installed as a floating floor, with an adequate expansion gap around the perimeter. There are detailed installation guidelines on the Mannington website.

Adura Rigid can be installed on any level and in any room of your home, including basements and bathrooms.

One of the biggest advantages of rigid core is that it can be installed on most solid surface subfloors, including concrete, wood, and ceramic tile. It cannot be installed over carpet.

Subfloors must be clean, dry, water-resistant, smooth and flat. If your subfloor is not level, or in the case of a ceramic tile subfloor where it is uneven due to grout lines, then you should apply a leveling compound first.

There are strict guidelines concerning subfloor moisture levels (see the installation instructions for details), so be sure to test your subfloor before installation so that it complies as your warranty will not cover poor subfloor preparation.

Yes. Adura Rigid can be installed over concrete floors with hydronic radiant heating systems, but you cannot have the temperature go above 85°F.

NO, but… Whilst Adura Rigid flooring does not need to be acclimated, you should ensure that during installation your room temperature remains ideally around 70°F (somewhere between 55°F – 100°F is acceptable).

Keeping Adura Rigid vinyl floor cleaning is pretty easy – regular vacuuming with an attachment suitable for hard flooring surfaces followed by a damp mop is all that is needed.

Naturally, Mannington recommend damp mopping with their in-house Mannington Utlra Clean formula, but any hard surface floor clear that is PH neutral and doesn’t contain wax or oil will be fine.

Whilst Adura rigid is waterproof, you should nevertheless not allow puddles of water to stand for too long; hence use a damp (not wet) mop and take care to clean up spills promptly.

Extra care should be taken when moving furniture around your Adura Rigid flooring, especially if it has just been installed and sensible protective measures should be taken, such as using suitable casters on heavy items, adding felt pads to the bottom of tables and chairs, and using non-staining mats and rugs.

Note that Adura Rigid flooring can fade or discolor if it is subjected to prolonged hours of direct sunshine. So, if your flooring is in a sunny room, consider using drapes or blinds during the peak hours of sunshine.

Never sand, polish or wax Adura Rigid flooring.

Mannington Adura Rigid is sold at Wayfair and other flooring retailers across the USA. It currently retails at $4.99 per square foot which places it in the higher end price bracket of rigid core flooring products. Remember you don’t need to buy or install underlayment as Adura Rigid already has an integrated layer of underlayment.

Customers felt that Adura Rigid flooring met their expectations in terms of durability and maintenance.

Negative reviews were linked to poor performance post installation, which again leads us to recommend that you use trusted and experienced installers for this rigid core flooring.

Here is a representative selection of customer reviews.

“It was a good option to cover our old flooring, and looks great!” – Warren

“I love the way it looks, and it feels very strong – it’s in my basement bathroom / laundry room and does seem to be waterproof enough.” – Nora

“Gorgeous flooring – the oak images are really realistic, and I think the overall look will stand the test of time. Really pleased with my choice!” – TD

“We really loved the look of the floor, but annoyingly the seams have come undone in some places. We had it reviewed and it would seem the flooring installers did not do a great job.” – Casey

“I’ve installed several floors over the years, and the Adura Rigid was not that complicated to install – the instruction manual for installation was fairly comprehensive.” – George

What is the wear level of Adura Ridged planking and is the color the same all the way through

  • October 25, 2020 at 12:20 pm

We just had the Adura Rigid floor in the Fossil pattern installed in our new home. Very disappointing due to the day and night (literally) difference in the color variations between the tiles. When comparing the pictures of our floor to those Mannington displays on their website and the single sample we were shown at the distributor’s store, one would have thought they must have 2 to 3 different colors mixed in.
We understand there will be some color variation, which can produce an interesting effect on the surface, but this difference was much to wide. We are awaiting a response from the distributor, so not sure how this will turn out.

Is there a wear level that I see listed with other luxury vinyl plank companies? I read that at least a 20 mil wear level is needed. Is this accurate?

    Thank you,
